The E-sports world cup 2025 begins on 29th July and goes on until 1st of August 2025. It’s a 16-player event with some of the biggest names in the world of chess!

Let’s try and understand the format:
16 players are segregated in group of 4 players. So there are 4 groups in all. The time control is 10+0.
On day 1 we had 4 players who topped the 4 groups and will have a rest day on 30th of July 2025.
The players who topped are:
A group – Levon Aronian
B group – Arjun Erigaisi
C group – Alireza Firouzja
D group – Magnus Carlsen
Now from the losers bracket we will have 4 players who will advance to join these 4 in the top to the Quarter Finals.

2. Winner of the above match takes on Esipenko
B group
1. Anish Giri vs Nihal Sarin
2. Winner of the above match takes on MVL
C group
1. Sindarov vs Wei Yi
2. Winner of the above match takes on Nakamura
D group
1. Nodirbek Abdusattorov vs Caruana
2. Winner of the above match takes on Duda
Best of 2 games with a time control of 10+0 followed by Armageddon. At the end of the day we will be left with 8 players in the tournament.
