The E-sports world cup 2025 begins on 29th July and goes on until 1st of August 2025. It’s a 16-player event with some of the biggest names in the world of chess! Let’s try and understand the format:
16 players are segregated in group of 4 players. So there are 4 groups in all. The time control is 10+0.
These are the groups and matches:
Group A:
Nepo vs Esipenko
Artemiev vs Aronian
Group B:
MVL vs Anish Giri
Nihal Sarin vs Arjun Erigaisi
Group C:
Nakamura vs Sindarov
Wei Yi vs Firouzja
Group D:
Carlsen vs Nodirbek
Duda vs Caruana
Best of 2 games followed by Armageddon. The two winners in each group will play each other to move to the Semi-finals, while the two losers will play each other in the losers bracket. On 29th of July we have the round of 16 and the quarter-finals taking place.
