Wrestling with a Hippopotamus | Climbing the Rating Ladder vs. 2008

In this continuation of the “Climbing the Rating Ladder” series I take on players of various ratings levels while pointing out typical mistakes and spots for improvement along the way (possibly my own!? :)). Here I commentate a 10+0 game against a player rated 2008 on Chess.com. In a game that starts life as a Nimzo-Larsen Attack (1.b3) and evolves into the Hippopotamus Defense (a flexible setup that’s mainly characterized by keeping pawns back on the third/sixth ranks), I grab ample space and prepare a pawn break. This setup can be frustrating to face with either color, so remember to prepare a pawn break (usually somewhere along the c to f-file) and aim for two points of contact!

(4/4) On another note I could do with some tips on how to get a good sleep. It seems like I am a fully fledged insomniac. 😵‍💫
I was in bed at 1am last night but didn't even manage to get 1 minutes sleep after tossing and turning all night. Been awake for about 40 hours now. 😱

(3/4) I missed one very likely obvious winning move.
Here I played Bg2? but I should just play Qh6!
For some reason I had missed ...Qxh6 Bxh6 ...Nxc3 a3! Which is game over.
In the end I lost 😔 after Johann played excellently.
