Vishy Anand took on Nijat Abasov in the Bundesliga game of 9th round for his club Baden Baden. Nijat has been in top form as he has made it to the Candidates. Vishy’s last classical game was at the European Club Cup 2023 in October but before that he hadn’t played a classical game since a year. But Vishy came all guns blazing, played a fantastic game and beat Nijat. With this Vishy broke into top 10 in the world once again – an Elo of 2751. It’s absolutely amazing how Anand still manages to bring out his A-game even at this age. IM Sagar Shah analyzes this encounter from his hotel room in Prague.
