Vidit Gujrathi comes across as a very kind and soft spoken individual. But behind that cool demeanour is a man who is thoroughly determined and driven. Vidit wants to unleash his best when it comes to playing chess and for that he is working extremely hard. After a great performance at the FIDE World Cup 2023 where he reached the quarter finals, but then got eliminated by Nijat Abasov, we met him in Dusseldorf. Vidit is in Germany to play for the team of Freedom at the FIDE World Rapid Team Championships 2023. We caught up with him to talk about how he keeps improving even at this age, how he beat a strong player like Nepo, how heartbreaking was it to lost to Abasov and get eliminated and understand from him his secret ingredient of success – meditation.
