WGM Vantika Agrawal took up the extremely important task of playing on board no.1 for India 2 women’s team at the Chess Olympiad 2022. Playing on the top board is never easy. Vantika scored 7.5/11, scoring her 2nd IM norm and in the process also surpassing the 2400 Elo mark. She now needs only one IM norm to become the next IM of India.
Vantika is a big Magnus Carlsen fan and she managed to meet the World Champion at the Olympiad at the Bermuda party. Vantika tells us about what it means to her to meet Magnus and see him playing chess in person. We also speak to her about her balancing act with academics and chess and the role that her mother Sangeeta Agrawal plays in her career. The effort put in by Vantika’s mother is quite awe-inspiring.
