Valentina Gunina was rated 2548 in 2015 in Classical chess. In May 2021 her rating was 2421. This was because she was suffering from health issues and had back problems among others. But Gunina loves chess so much, that she doesn’t want to give up on her passion for the game. That’s the reason why she has been working hard with a physical trainer and her private coach has made her fall in love with chess all over again. Her rating also improved to 2480.
At the World Rapid and Blitz, Gunina managed to get two bronze medals. Check out her interview as IM Sagar Shah speaks to her. The smile on her face, her enthusiasm and her positive energy is so infectious! Wouldn’t you agree?
