Very few players in chess have gone on to become a GM without the IM title. One name that comes to mind is Vladimir Kramnik. The former World Champion was an FM and then went on to become a GM. 20-year-old Vedant Panesar from Mumbai is also trying to do the same. The youngster is an FM and has an Elo of 2462. He achieved all his IM norms and can simply apply for his title. But he has decided to detach himself from that achievement and wants to put all of his focus on becoming a GM. This is an inspiring interview of a youngster who doesn’t consider himself as a top notch talent but has this immense willpower to excel at the sport.
