The Chess.com Speed Chess Championship 2023 will be played online from the 4th to the 22nd of September.
The event is held as a 16-player single elimination tournament featuring some of the world’s strongest blitz and bullet players like Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura and Alireza Firouzja. They will compete for a total prize fund of $140,000.
Each match consists of 3 segments:
Segment 1 lasts 90 min, time control is 5 minutes for the entire game with a 1-second increment from move 1.
Segment 2 lasts 60 min, time control is 3 minutes for the entire game with a 1-second increment from move 1.
Segment 3 lasts 30 min, time control is 1 minute for the entire game with a 1-second increment from move 1.
In case of a tie, a four-game 1+1 match will be played. If this is also tied, a bidding armageddon game with a 5-minute base time will decide the outcome of the round.
