In this continuation of the “Climbing the Rating Ladder” series I take on players of various ratings levels while pointing out typical mistakes and spots for improvement along the way (possibly my own!? :)). Here I commentate a 10+5 game against a player rated 2315 on Chess.com. Against an Old Indian style-setup, I decide to place my pawn on e3 rather than e4, keeping the diagonal open for my fianchettoed light-square bishop. Black seizes space with …e5-e4, which quickly leads to a locked pawn structure. I look to prosecute my space advantage on the queenside, and Black must decide whether to fight back on that wing or seek counterplay on the kingside.
