Aronyak Ghosh is an IM with 1 GM norm. He is the highest rated IM of the country with a FIDE Elo of 2533. Aronyak recently won the Athens of the East GM tournament in India and pumped up his rating beyond 2500. He then planned a trip to Europe with the sponsorship that he received from Sadhana app of Rs.1,50,000.
This was made possible by the efforts of GM Vidit Gujrathi and HelpChess Foundation. Aronyak gained 31 Elo points in this trip to Spain consisting of 4 events and has reached 2533. How does Aronyak plan to achieve his GM title? Well, the GM title is not on the boy’s mind. His main aim is to not lose a single game and keep increasing his rating. That’s the reason why he is going to play at the Chattisgarh GM tournament next. This is a very refreshing approach by Aronyak, as generally people who are close to their GM titles avoid playing in India. But Aronyak’s logic is simple, the prize money is good and he enjoys playing against lower rated opponents! Aronyak now has an unbeaten streak of 47 games.
