Gukesh has become India no.1 on live ratings by beating Misratdin Iskandarov in the 2nd game of the 2nd round of the FIDE World Cup 2023. Vishy Anand became India no.1 in 1986 and has maintained that spot for 37 years. The only time that an Indian surpassed him in live ratings is Harikrishna in 2016. But that was only for a day. Now Gukesh has managed to achieve this again on 3rd of August 2023. It remains to be see how long Gukesh remains India no.1 but one thing is for sure, today was an iconic day for Indian chess.
