In this continuation of the “Climbing the Rating Ladder” series I take on players of various ratings levels while pointing out typical mistakes and spots for improvement along the way (possibly my own!? :)). Here I commentate a 10+5 game against a player rated 1812 on Chess.com. The Dzindzi-Indian Defense, also known as the Beefeater, is a truly unique line reached via the sequence 1.d4 g6 2.c4 c5 3.Nc3 c5 4.d5 Bxc3+!? 4.bxc3 f5. Black doubles White’s c-pawns and lays claim to the e4 square, and it’s remarkably how often White gets strategically squeezed if they don’t know to open the position quickly with approaches like 5.h4 or 5.e4. I enjoy playing this line a lot as Black, but you should now that you cannot force it against 1.d4 – it requires some cooperation from White!
