Divya Deshmukh is the current India no.6. She has raced up to Elo 2408 and is ranked no.47 in the world. The 17-year-old from Nagpur had a phenomenal month of September 2023. Divya managed to win the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid 2023 ahead of the current World Champion Ju Wenjun and top players like Humpy and Harika. And then she went to the Polish League where she beat world class players like Dinara Wagner, Monika Socko, Nataliya Buksa, Aleksandra Maltsevskaya and Anna Warakomska. This was Divya’s first ever league event and she gained a solid 22 Elo points from it. We speak to Divya on how she managed to play so well and how does it feel about the fact that she is arriving on the world stage.
