Soham Kamotra from Jammu Kashmir became the first ever chess player from his state to win a national title. The boy did it at the MPL under-18 national championships that were held in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in April 2022.
Soham, who has a rating of 2159, gained 100 Elo points, and finished 1st ahead of strong players like GM Bharath Subramaniyam, IM Srihari L.R. and others.
In this interview, the national champion shows his best game from the tournament – it was against Vignesh B. Soham shows great understanding of preventing opponent’s resources. Playing in Karpovian style, he squeezes the life out of his opponent’s position. It’s a game from which you can learn a lot. Try pausing the video and thinking when you are asked to do so.
To end the video Soham also shows a tactical position from the event where he had seen a tremendous resource! Check out the video to understand how talented Soham is. We are very sure, soon he will become the first IM from the state of J&K.
