Scoring 93% in 10th grade and becoming a WGM – Rakshitta Ravi

Born in 2005, Rakshitta Ravi is just 17 years old. But she is already entered the big league of chess by becoming a WGM. This she did when she scored her final WGM norm at the 1st Saturday tournament in Budapest, Hungary. Rakshitta not only scored her final WGM norm, she also achieved her maiden IM norm by beating GM Vasilios Kotronias, GM Sahaj Grover and IM Ilamparthi AR.

The youngster is a big fighter on the chess board and in life. She had not given an exam since 5th grade as she was busy with her chess. But when the pandemic struck, she decided to give her 10th board exams. This meant that she had to study everything that she had missed for 5 years, in just 1 year. She managed to do that and scored 93% marks in her exams.

In 2019, Rakshitta had an Elo of 2322. She then dropped down to 2111 in 2022. What happened? She speaks about it in this interview. Within a year she managed to pick herself back and is now back to where she belongs – 2302. How did Rakshitta manage to overcome her psychological barriers? All of this and much more in this enlightening interview with the fine talent from Chennai.

(4/4) On another note I could do with some tips on how to get a good sleep. It seems like I am a fully fledged insomniac. 😵‍💫
I was in bed at 1am last night but didn't even manage to get 1 minutes sleep after tossing and turning all night. Been awake for about 40 hours now. 😱

(3/4) I missed one very likely obvious winning move.
Here I played Bg2? but I should just play Qh6!
For some reason I had missed ...Qxh6 Bxh6 ...Nxc3 a3! Which is game over.
In the end I lost 😔 after Johann played excellently.
