12-year-old Samyak Dharewa (1542) brought Snehil Raj Singh’s (1407) fantastic momentum to a screeching halt as he defeated him in the fifth round to throw the tournament wide open. Seven players were at 5.0/6 heading into the last round. Not knowing whether a win would be enough to win the tournament, Samyak focused on playing a good game and enjoy the process. It allowed him to beat Soureen Bhattacharya (1342) and win the tournament in tie-breaks. He became the first player from Darjeeling district to become West Bengal State Sub-Junior Boys champion. Check out how calm and composed he is, despite having less than two hours left to catch the train at the time of this interview. He also shows his best game from the event which also turned out to be the most significant win.
