Praggnanandhaa played what was perhaps the most high stakes match of his life against his compatriot Arjun Erigaisi at the Quarter Finals of the FIDE World Cup 2023. The match between the two youngsters reached the tiebreaks after one win apiece in the classical encounters. Blows were traded back and forth and the score was 4-4 after 8 games. In the end it was Pragg who emerged victorious in the final sudden death game. With this win Pragg not only advanced to the Semi-finals of the World Cup 2023 and will face Fabiano Caruana, but also has 99% confirmed his spot to the Candidates 2024.
