Nijat Abasov’s tournament has been absolutely scintillating. He reached the Semi-finals of the FIDE World Cup 2023 by beating many top players which included Anish Giri, Vidit Gujrathi, Peter Svidler among others. He booked his spot to the Candidates 2024. He lost to Magnus Carlsen in the semi-finals, but now fights for the 3rd place against the current world no.2 Fabiano Caruana.
