Background created using Stable Diffusion V2!
The opening is known as the Scandinavian Defense: Modern Variation. In this variation, Black defends their d5 pawn with the move 1…d5, which also controls the center of the board. White responds by capturing the pawn with 2. exd5, opening up the center for their pieces. Black then fianchettoes their kingside knight with the move 2…Nf6, preparing to defend their pawn with 3…Bd7. White retreats their bishop with 4. Be2, preparing to support their pawn advance with a subsequent d4 push. The Scandinavian Defense: Modern Variation is a solid and respected opening for Black, as it allows for complex and rich positions to arise on the board.
