Chess is more than a sport. On Sunday 18th December 2022, the fifth edition of Senior Citizens Chess Tournament was organized in memory of India’s second Grandmaster in history, GM Dibyendu Barua’s late father, Benoy Bhuson Barua. He was a pathbreaker who encouraged his children to play chess at a time where it was not considered a sport, it was just like any other activity to pass the time. Mr. Benoy Bhuson’s efforts is well-known which made Dibyendu Barua achieve lots of accolades and laurels throughout his career. The legend talks about organizing tournaments for senior citizens to be a social responsibility as the pressure of daily life has increased a lot for the elder people. This tournament is a great escape for them to enjoy the sport and have fun with the likeminded people in a friendly environment.
