Irene Sukandar Kharisma for over 15 years has been the top female player of Indonesia. She has a rating of 2407 with 1 GM norm. Recently she made a record by winning the UAE 50th national day tournament at the prestigious Dubai Chess and Culture Club ahead of many GMs. This was for the first time in the history of Dubai Chess and Culture Club that a female player had won an open event.
Apart from this Irene is also working in FIDE for the planning and development commission in Asia. She has received many benefits in her life thanks to chess and she hopes more people will receive the same through her service for the game.
We also speak to Irene about quite a big scandal that took place in the world of chess where Gothamchess took on Dewa Kipas and lost to him online and accused him of cheating. Irene, who lived in the same country as Dewa Kipas, collected all the information and supported the facts. She believed Dewa Kipas didn’t play fairly. Deddy Corbuzier, an Indonesian YouTube channel hosted the match between Dewa Kipas and Irene and the tenacious female player outwitted her opponent with considerable ease. This match was watched LIVE by 1.25 million people! The highest ever in the history of chess!
