GM Karthik Venkataraman (2565) is the reigning National champion. He defeated GM Gregory Kaidanov (USA, 2563) 1.5-0.5 to advance to the Round 2 of FIDE World Cup 2023. He will face none other than the Speed King, newly-wed and current World Fischer Random champion, GM Hikaru Nakamura (USA) himself.
