In this continuation of the “Climbing the Rating Ladder” series I take on players of various ratings levels while pointing out typical mistakes and spots for improvement along the way (possibly my own!? :)). Here I commentate a 5+5 game against a player (a viewer, in fact!) rated 1784 on Chess.com. My opponent plays the Bird-Larsen Attack (1.b3), and I counter with my favorite weapon, 1…d5 and 2…Bg4. In the early middlegame White plays a little passively with 12.Rb1?!, and I’m able to sink a knight into d4 and pressure the base of my opponent’s pawn chain on c2. A key justification for this plan is that an exchange on c4 would allow me to voluntarily double my own pawns on the d-file, thereby yielding a valuable half-open c-file. #Chess #ChessInstruction #ClimbingTheRatingLadder
