There are not many trailblazers in the world, who believe in themselves and are able to achieve something which no one before them were able to. One such personality is Bassem Amin. The strong GM from Egypt is the first player from Africa to cross the Elo threshold of 2700.
We had the pleasure to meet Bassem at the Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Cup 2021. He finished 2nd at the Blitz tournament. In his interview we not only discuss some of the games from the rapid and blitz events, but also talk about how he evolved into such a strong chess player. Get to understand the situation in Egypt and Africa and how Bassem fought against all odds to reach where he is today.
Amin is also a doctor and the only 2700+ Elo player in the world to be a doctor. When the chess tournaments weren’t happening in the pandemic, did he start his work as a doctor? Not really, Bassem has started training youngsters and is now building the next generation of champions from his country. Know more about his genial champion through this interview.
