FM Sourath Biswas (2201) played less tournaments this year. He is currently pursuing B. Stat. at Indian Statistical Institute. Despite being mostly focused on studies, he went to play Asian Junior 2025 Open without any expectations. He had a forgettable Rapid event, however, in Classical he scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 to clinch Gold, become India’s latest International Master and also score a maiden GM-norm. How did he do that?
