The 2023 FIDE World Championship between GM Ian Nepomniachtchi and GM Ding Liren will take place from the 9th to the 29th of April 2023 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The match will consist of 14 games, a score of 7 1⁄2 or higher will determine the 2023 World Chess Champion.
The time control for each game is 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 60 minutes for the
next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting
from move 61.
In July 2022, current World Champion GM Magnus Carlsen decided to not defend his title.
