Prraneeth Vuppala becomes India’s 82nd GM and will receive Rs.2.5 crores from Telangana Government

In the penultimate round of the Baku Open 2023, GM Prraneeth Vuppala beat Hans Niemann to cross 2500 Elo and become the 82nd GM of India. The boy from Telangana has performed consistently over the last year or so and at the age of 15 years (born in 2007) has managed to become a GM. Prraneeth received words of praise from World Champion Vishy Anand on Twitter. There was also more surprise in store for him as he reached India. Immediately on the next day he met the Chief Minister of Telangana Sri K. Chandrashekar Rao. The CM promised to support the youngster with an amount of Rs.2.5 crores (US$300,000) in his bid to become a super GM. This is an interview with a boy who speaks softly and very little but is sure to make big waves in the years to come.
