Nineteenth of June, 2022 will go down in the history of Indian chess as one of the biggest days towards the growth of chess in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday flagged off the first-ever torch relay for the Chess Olympiad ahead of the 44th edition of the event, which is to be held in Mahabalipuram from July 28 to August 10.
Another event was simultaneously taking place on the same day where more than 1500 players participated in a one-day rapid tournament. Here is a small video to give you a feel of the tournament and the vibe of the venue.
Because of time constraints, the event was concluded within seven rounds and GM Mitrabha Guha became the champion due to better tire break points. He scored 7/7.
