The 2023 Tata Steel Challengers is taking place from 14-29 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. The 14-player single round-robin offers the winner an automatic place in the 2024 Tata Steel Masters.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. A tie for first place will be decided by two blitz (3+2) games. If still tied, the players keep playing single “sudden death” games where White gets 2.5 minutes and Black 3 minutes until one side wins. Official website: www.tatasteelchess.com
