We often meet and talk to chess players and their achievements but sometimes we miss out the stories of how they reached there. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment to nurture a young talent. As we spoke with 13-year-old Sriram Adarsh Uppalan who won the 34th National Under-17 Chess Championship-2024, Open, we also took the opportunity to speak to his coach N. Ramaraju and his father Shiva Kumar Uppala. This interview can give you an idea of how to effectively train a chess player and how involved you have to be.
