S.L. Narayanan is one of the strongest chess players in the country with a rating of 2654. He was the member of the India 1 team at the Chess Olympiad 2022 and scored 5.5/7. We speak to Narayanan about his games at the event and how India 1 narrowly missed out on the medal by finishing 4th.
The last time we interviewed Narayanan he was looking for a job. His situation has not improved since then. At the age of 24 he is still searching for a job that will help him sustain. In order to ensure his chess career keeps going on until he finds a job, the AICF made a wonderful gesture of supporting him with Rs.1 lakh stipend per month for his training and chess improvement.
